Street children by Ginger Betzer

Orphaned, hungry alone,
they ravage the garbage
Pillar through trash cans and waste,
Looking for one morsel, one bite
To hold them through the night
and ease the gnawing hunger and pain.
My brother has seen them,
He's been there....and watched the hunger
Witnessed the pain.
And now he shares it with us....recorded live.
We watch
     armed with soda's and pizza,
and we eat till our stomach's ache......
and our soul sift through trash trying to find one morsel of our own humanity
holding onto that fleeting moment when we actually feel their pain.... and....
                              going............going........ .....gone.

Hunger poetry by April Self

Gnawing away at my insides,
this craving resides.
I hunger for some understanding,
to give in to my soul's demanding.
In the still of the night when dark trickles in,
the cravings begin again.
And I search for some consolation,
in the midst of my hunger devastation.
It beckons my tears to fall in full force,
reveling in its' main course.
At the sorrow that I feel,
makes for pity and sadness a fine meal.
And I wonder at the hunger that plagues my heart,
when will it end and when did it start.
As far back as I can recall,
this hunger has held me enthrall.

When I let myself on it dwell,
I open the gates to an inner hell.
Choosing to be busy as long as I can,
but I'm only human.
Sleep is needed to survive,
but the darkness depends on my loneliness to thrive.
And I lose myself yet again,
as the hunger for understanding takes me in.
Living as well as could be expected,
only my sanity I leave protected.
As the hunger searches my soul,
and begins to take its' toll.
I pray the words to give me peace,
to provide for me this empty hungers' release.
And open the prison that has kept ahold,
and left me alone lost and cold.
Hunger that has haunted me,
I hope I will soon be let free.

This is what we eat, and what THEY eat

Here is what we eat all the time that can cause us to look like this. These people eat all the food that the starving people can eat.

This how we look when we normally eat. Theres food enough for the hungry.

And this is what starving people have to eat. Nothing, they're forced to eat dirt like the first picture is of mud pies baking under the sun in Haiti.

Would you like to be this?

Can you imagine through yourchildhood, being like this?

None of you would feel like this because you probably live in a nice happy family. All the food you can eat, and drink. Never in your life will this happen to you. You could help them all, but we choose to ignore it! Now children die, and you could of done something, but you just left it and let them die.

How is this happening, why?!?!

Every single night, 925 million people go to bed starving.  This number, which has increased in past years due to a spike in food prices in 2007-2008, is obnoxious.  In a world of plenty, how is it that so many have to suffer through malnutrition and hunger pains on a daily basis?
This is the question, the key focus of the Hunger Report and the many other programs that want to stop the number of malnourished kids.
“But with a child dying every six seconds because of under-nourishment related problems, hunger remains the world's largest tragedy and scandal,” said FAO Director-General Jacques Diouf. “This is absolutely unacceptable”. I agree. Can you imagine, yourself malnourished, hungry, in pain. Many children live like that all their life untill they end up dieing unless someone, like you can help them. Donate money, donate food, do anything it takes to help. Put yourself in their position and imagine what it would feel like if you were left out there to die!

Causes that lead to Hunger

Lots of things in life can cause hunger. Many including poverty, and climate change. Poverty causes hunger because they do not have enough money to get food. Climate change is being viewed current and future cause of hunger. The increase drought, flooding, and changing climatic patterns are putting a shift in crops and farming practices that may not be easily accomplished. Many different food charities are trying to stop world hunger by donating as much food as they can. The target set at the 1996 World Food Summit was to halve the number of undernourished people by 2015 from their number in 1990-92. The estimated number of undernourished people was 824 million people in 1990-92, but later it increased to 1.02 billion people!

It's just not right!!

Here in Canada and US, there is food to feed everyone. But the more we eat the fatter we get especially with all the new greasy foods. In Africa and some parts of Asia many have nothing to eat AT ALL!! Many end up starving and do not get chance to experience life happily, they soon parish and only carrying the memories of the pain and suffering that they endured when they live. Below is a map of the world which shows which parts of the world have obesity and which do not. There is also a list showing the percentages of obesity in that country. Many will not be named because they have no obesity at all. Did you notice that Africa and Asia do not have much obesity? That is because many places have no food what so ever,  however, the places that do have food do not have many fat, greasy foods. They usually eat what they get from their crops like rice. So while we get fatter and wider, people in Asia and Africa get slimmer and scrawnier.
